Welcome to Phoenix Field & Obedience Club

Phoenix Field & Obedience Club is the oldest and largest not-for-profit dog obedience training club in the Phoenix metro area. One of our main activities is conducting low-cost dog training classes for the general public. We also hold AKC Obedience and Rally trials and matches every year. PFOC welcomes new members who are interested in dog training and helping with club objectives to benefit local dog owners.

What is the cost of a session?

The cost of a 6-week training session is $50. The cost for Open and Utility ring procedure is $40 per session. 

 

When and where are PFOC classes held?

PFOC conducts 6-week dog training classes on Monday evenings from September through April. Classes are held outdoors at a Phoenix city park. Some classes being at 7 pm and others at 8:15 pm. We will accept students by pre-registration only.

 

What will my dog learn?

PFOC classes will show you how to use patience and correct techniques to communicate with your dog. In our beginning classes, we teach basic control exercises to prepare your dog for successful completion of AKC’s Canine Good Citizen test. In our obedience show classes, the emphasis is on preparing you and your dog for competition at Obedience trials. You can also choose to prepare for Rally or Conformation competition. Our instructors are experienced at training their own dogs and are dedicated to helping other dog owners enhance the relationship with their dog.

 

Both purebred and All American dog breeds are welcome in PFOC classes. Phoenix Field & Obedience Club reserves the right to refuse admission to PFOC classes at the discretion of the Training Director.

How do I sign up for classes?

You can sign up for classes online or register for classes by mailing a completed registration form, along with a check made payable to PFOC, to Training Director Marilyn Bennett at 7148 W. Caribbean Lane, Peoria, AZ 85381. The registration form can be downloaded from this website. You can also call Marilyn at 623-979-6831.

Training Class Information

PFOC conducts 6-week dog training classes on Monday evenings from September through April. Classes are held outdoors at a Phoenix city park. We offer Obedience classes that range from Kindergarten Puppy Training through Utility show training. We also offer classes in Rally and Conformation classes. The cost of a 6-week session is $50 except Open and Utility ring procedure which $40. You must be at least 16 years of age to register for a class.

You can register online or mail your registration along with payment using our registration form.

CLASSES OFFERED

Kindergarten Puppy Training. This class is for puppies up to 4 months old (thepuppy must have had 2 Parvo shots). The class Includes Introduction to basic commands such as heel, sit, down and stay. It also teaches basic maintenance skills such as grooming, teeth brushing and toenail cutting. PFOC is offering training in the American Kennel Club's S.T.A.R. Puppy Program which emphasizes Socialization, Training, Activity and Responsible ownership.

Basic Beginning. You will learn to teach your dog to sit, down, stay, heel, come and leave It. The main focus is to have a well-behaved family pet. There are 3 age groups:

 

Puppy Beginning for puppies 5 to the 6 months of age.

 

Young Beginning for puppies 7 to 10 months of age. 

 

Adult Beginning for dogs over 10 months of age.

 

Advanced Beginning. This class follows Basic Beginning. New exercises introduce you to the beginning level of obedience competition.

 

Pre-Novice. This class emphasizes fine-tuning basic obedience exercises that will be encountered in obedience competition. There is some off-leash work.

 

Novice. This class is for handlers making final preparations for showing in the Novice obedience class. Approval is necessary to enroll.

 

Open Ring Procedure. Ring procedure is offered for dogs who have earned at least 2 Novice obedience legs. The purpose is to prepare dogs and handlers for showing in the Open class. Only club members are eligible to participate.

 

Utility Ring Procedure. Ring procedure is offered for dogs who have earned at least 2 Open obedience legs. The purpose is to prepare dogs and handlers for showing in the Utility class. Only club members are eligible to participate.

 

Rally. This class prepares dogs and handlers to enter AKC Rally trials.

 

Conformation Show Training. This class prepares handlers to show their dog inconformation classes at dog shows.
